The Product:

Our motorized louvered roof systems offer unparalleled control over your outdoor environment, making them ideal for residential patios, commercial lounge areas, or restaurant dining spaces. Each individual louver blade is engineered to interlock seamlessly when closed, forming a rainproof seal. With a subtle pitch, the blades channel water along their length, directing it into an internal gutter system with a downspout for efficient drainage.

When the louvers are opened, you can adjust them to either let in full sunlight or block direct rays while allowing hot air to escape. This feature prevents the buildup of heat typically associated with solid roof patio covers, ensuring a comfortable, cool atmosphere. As the temperature drops, fresh air circulates beneath the cover, enhancing comfort for you and your guests.

Crafted from premium aluminum extrusions and coated with durable powder-coated paint, our patio covers are built to withstand Utah’s diverse weather conditions. This finish is backed by our lifetime finish guarantee, ensuring long-lasting protection and beauty. We offer a wide range of standard finishes to complement your home’s existing soffit, fascia, or siding, with custom color options available at an additional cost.

Every cover we build is custom sized and fitted to your space.

Our Process:

When we arrive at your home, we begin by evaluating the area you wish to cover, whether it’s a deck, patio, or any other outdoor space. In collaboration with you, the homeowner, we assess the optimal height, post layout, and any unique features that will enhance your custom patio cover.

The installation of a louvered roof is typically completed in just a few days. While many projects can be finished in a single day, larger installations may take two to three days to ensure a precise and efficient setup.

Mounting:

There are a few ways our covers can be mounted to your home.

Fascia Mount: We can mount the ledger beam of the cover directly to your existing fascia, replacing the existing house gutter with our own internal gutter system, catching the runoff water from your roof. It doesn’t matter if it’s a newer fascia or an older angled fascia, we ensure that the ledger is nice and secure.

Wall Mount: If the deck or patio is on the first floor or the fascia is too tall, we can mount directly to the side of your home. Passing through existing siding or stucco right into the studs and sheeting. Rocked walls or brick homes do not provide any problem. We can mount to almost any material that is part of your home.

Roof Mount: In some cases, homes may have a lower-than-usual roofline, or older decks may be rebuilt level with the patio door, eliminating the need for steps. Mounting the cover directly to the fascia in such situations would result in insufficient headspace, which can be problematic, especially if you plan to install a fan or light fixture. To address this, we offer additional headroom by mounting the cover directly to your roof using small posts. The final height is entirely determined by your preferences as the homeowner.

Free Standing: Many homeowners have seating or dining areas located farther from their back patios, such as next to a garden, swimming pool, or outdoor kitchen. Our freestanding framework is designed to provide full support without relying on your home’s structure, ensuring stability and strength to keep you comfortable in any weather. Since most of our covers are powered by a 12-volt battery, there’s no need to run electricity from the house to the cover for regular operation, offering added convenience and flexibility.

Using Existing Structures: We understand that many of our customers have cherished patio covers that have been a part of their outdoor spaces for years. As temperatures continue to rise each year, homeowners often desire a more functional patio cover without compromising the look and style of their existing structure. Our team can seamlessly integrate our framework into most well-built existing covers, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Whether it’s relocating support to a different part of the house to eliminate a post or removing a post altogether, our custom louvered roof patio covers are designed to perfectly fit the dimensions of your space, offering both style and improved performance.

Posts:

Our goal is to give you full control over the climate of your covered space—whether it’s allowing more sunlight in, blocking direct rays to vent heat, or keeping the rain out. At the same time, we want to ensure you don’t have to sacrifice the beauty of your home’s views. We carefully consider post placement to minimize the number of posts needed, maximizing the strength of the cover while preserving your panoramic views. With our custom solutions, we strive to seamlessly integrate your new cover with existing features, such as handrails. We offer 4-inch, 6-inch, and 7-inch posts to complement the framework of your cover, and these can be mounted to a deck, concrete pad, or cemented directly into the ground with a footer. We’ve even come up with creative post solutions to meet unique needs.

Operation/Electrical:

Our louvered covers are operated by a 12-volt motor powered by a small, rechargeable battery, which is recharged via a solar panel. The louvers are easily adjusted using a switch mounted on the side of a post or a handheld remote control. Thanks to this self-contained system, no electricity is required from your home to operate the cover.

However, for customers who wish to add features like a fan, screen, or lighting, we can pre-wire the framework during installation to accommodate these fixtures. The wiring is discreetly hidden within the structure, ensuring a clean and seamless appearance. Please note that for these added electrical features, the power will need to be connected to your home’s electrical system or another power source.

Design:

Each louvered roof we create is fully custom-designed to match the unique shape, specifications, and style of your home. Our goal is to make your patio cover feel like it was always part of the original design, blending seamlessly with your home’s architecture. We pride ourselves on our creativity, offering a range of solutions for varying slopes, gables, and unique designs to accommodate unusual roof pitches, irregular deck sizes, or simply to add a touch of flair beyond a standard patio cover. With over 25 years of experience—more than anyone else in the louvered roof industry—and thousands of custom covers built all over the world, we at SunShade are confident in our ability to deliver designs that others simply wouldn’t attempt.
